Texting Images: BLINDSIDE & EWF Ekphrastic Workshop

Ekphrasis is the practice of rendering an artwork as text. As part of Blindside and the Emerging Writers Festival’s 2024 Ekphrastic Writing Program, Naarm-based poet and critic Dr Autumn Royal will reveal the history of ekphrasis to illuminate the relationship between literary and visual realms. Participants are invited to expand on this form by writing their own ekphrastic text in response to original artworks.

This workshop, coinciding with Blindside’s 20th anniversary celebration, reflects on how text can evoke an afterlife of ephemeral exhibitions. Writers will consider how new textual responses may expand, reactivate, and revise artworks in Blindside’s archive.
